Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Wizardly Way, the location-based wizard RPG.

What is Wizardly Way?

Wizardly Way is a free-to-play, location-based fantasy RPG for Android. It turns the real map around you into Talamh, a magical version of Earth, where you craft spells from words of power, battle monsters, capture bosses, seal rifts and wake landmarks with other wizards nearby. See How to Play.

Do I have to walk around to play?

No. Early versions moved your character only when you physically moved, which was limiting and not always safe. The game now loads the area you're in and lets you explore it freely in-game, so it plays just as well standing still as it does on a walk.

Is Wizardly Way like Pokémon Go?

It shares the idea of a game world laid over the real map, but Wizardly Way is a full fantasy RPG: you level up a wizard, craft your own spells, gear up, follow a story and clear dungeons. And you don't need to walk to explore.

Is there multiplayer or PvP?

There is no PvP. You won't see other players on the map, but you share the same world: wizards nearby wake landmarks together, seal each other's rifts and push back the Wane as a community. Team boss battles, where you join a lobby and fight a boss together, are planned after launch.

How do I get new spells?

Every spell is built from five spell words. You learn words by casting Capture on a boss or champion and then defeating it, or by buying them from traveling vendors. Then you combine words into spells anywhere. See Magic and Spell Words.

When will the game be released?

Wizardly Way is in active development by a solo developer and has been through friends-and-family alpha testing. There is no public release date yet. Follow progress on the Roadmap, the Dev Log, and Bluesky, or join the mailing list for beta news.

What is a Moot Stone, and how do I make one?

A Moot Stone is a landmark players propose at a real public place in their neighborhood. From level 5 you can tap Found a Moot Stone, take a photo with the in-app camera, name it and spend 50 Mana Petals. Each submission is reviewed by hand. Approved stones grow stronger the more wizards visit. Read the Moot Stone guidelines.

Will it be on iPhone or only Android?

The first release will be on Android. An iOS version is planned once the Android version is stable.

How much will the game cost?

Wizardly Way will be free to play, with optional in-game purchases.

Why does the game need my location?

Your device's location is used while you play to load the map around you and place enemies, resources and portals nearby. We don't sell location data. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How old do I need to be to play?

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account (or older if your country requires it). See the Terms of Service.

What languages will be supported?

The game launches in English. More languages will be added based on community interest and support.
